Marie is registered for Anytime Banking but mainly uses her Ulster Bank Mobile App. She never goes into a branch and favours transacting online. In an average month, Marie taps her Contactless card 15 times and uses her debit card 31 times for online shopping and at point of sale. Marie has 16 automated transactions which are made up of 2 standing orders, 1 to pay her rent and the other into her savings. She makes payments on the mobile app 6 times a month to split bills with her friends, 3 standing orders and 5 direct debits. Marie also uses the ATM 7 times in a month to take out cash.
This is how her fees will break down in a typical month
|Transaction type||Fee||Number of transactions||Monthly cost|
|Total transaction fees||€12.00|
Marie could reduce her fees by:
· Maintaining a cleared balance of €3,000 in her account for each charging cycle so she would only pay the monthly maintenance fee.
· Taking cash back at point of sale from a participating retailer at €0.20 per transaction or using the ATM (€0.35 per transaction) rather than taking cash at the branch (€0.80 per transaction).
· Increasing her Contactless usage for all debit card transactions less than €30 where she sees the Contactless symbol as these transactions have the lowest cost (€0.01 per transaction) and registering for Apple Pay or Google Pay to enable her to also complete Contactless transactions via Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Marie can also keep track of her account by switching to paperless on Anytime Banking. This will mean she will receive her account statements and mail online. She can review her preferences by clicking on the ‘Paperless settings’ option in the left hand menu within Anytime Banking.
